The 2 types of TR6 overdrive mainshaft are currently priced at 175 pounds which translates to $212 at current exchange rates. Overdrive Repair Services. I’d guess that shipping would be around 50 bucks. The difference is in the size of the bearing in the input shaft which necessitates a difference in the nose of the mainshaft.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #1f497d;">The problem is the main shaft that plugs into the front of the overdrive unit is different between the all synchro gear boxes and the non-synchro 1<sup>st</sup> gear box and are not interchangeable.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #1f497d;">When I put OD on my 59 TR3A about 10 years ago I found out how rare the non-synchro mainshafts were and ended up buying a TR6 tranny and putting the OD on that as the OD I had came with the synchro mainshaft.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">A Type OD in a tr6 box will absolutely bolt right into TR3, 3A, 4, or 4a. Best upgrade. My original TR3A tranny is nice but doesn’t shift as well as tr6 and not as beefy when it comes to parts and design. If I had to replace I’d do the 6 tranny with a type. Jim Henningsen </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The car has a TR4 engine anyway and I have a nice TR6 tranny (non overdrive). We do not care about originality; rather we are going for performance with a mild cam, 89 mm pistons, lightened flywheel, etc</p>
