Old wire wheels and spline hubs can create the same clunk. <p class="MsoNormal">Low-speed “clunk” in my TR4A IRS turned out to be worn splines in the axle shafts. I repacked the splines with grease to get by for a while, I’ll fix it properly when I decide it bothers me enough. Why Triumph didn’t put a grease fitting
on the sliding joint is a mystery to me.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I chased after a "rear end" clunk for years. Decided it was in the differential, and decided to replace it with a Nissan R200 limited slip after replacing u-joints and checking mounts many times. When I was installing the differential
and new, shortened drive shaft I discovered one of the transmission mount bolts had gone missing.<o:p></o:p></p>
