<div> <font size="3">I had mice take up residence in my heater.  The seals weren't the problem.  The smell was.  I had to fully disassemble the heater to clean it out.  I took the opportunity to sandblast all the sheetmetal and powder coat it.  But this is off topic.  The seal may be plastic foam which may have just oxidized and crumbled away.</font><br>
