<p class="MsoNormal">Agreed. The bolt has a square head to lock it into tabs on the lever. It was probably shoved in the shaft hole to stop it getting lost. The shaft has splines to stop the lever from rotating on the shaft once the bolt is tightened. The lever
should have a small hole in the end for the return spring that attaches to a small tab on the sheet metal at the end of the footwell.<o:p></o:p></p>

is actually oriented where the shaft would run and the bolt goes at right angle to that.
