Mark,

I agree, very low bid. Up here in Central NY, the TR4 is very rare. The 
car could use a bit of restoration on the underside. Lots of work to do 
a frame off but worth it in the long run. My hope is the younger 
generation takes a liking to all the classics so the hobby does not die.

Agree, a low price. But it really needs a full rebuild so IMHO the winning bid was probably what the car is worth in terms of work required to make it desirable. As for the age of the tyres, they would be an immediate annual test FAIL anywhere in Europe and UK. Okay for moving the car around at home but absolutely illegal on a public highway.

I?m going to be away from a keyboard or tablet pad on 4th July which is always an important date for all y?all. We?ve seen on the UK news that a certain person who doesn?t need to be named is trying to focus the 250th celebrations on himself. Over the centuries, our two countries have waxed and waned towards one another which is all part of life and now we seem to be too far apart. Looking into the future, that situation will hopefully rectify itself but in the meantime to my many friends on this list - and elsewhere, Happy Birthday USA on 4th July, 2026.

PS. I have here a skid of letters written by an ancestor, Captain John Macartney, Royal Navy and Captain of HMS PRINCESS AMELIA to the Mayor of Norfolk, Virginia in 1776. The correspondence deals with the refusal by the Mayor to re-victual the seven ships under Captain Mac?s command that were moored in Norfolk harbour. Payment would be in gold but the mayor continued to refuse. At that point, the Captain made it clear he would order his squadron to bring their massed guns to bear on the township and open fire. Fortunately for everyone, the mayor changed his mind and massacre was averted. I apologise for any distress or hard feeling that may still exist in Norfolk and anywhere else :)

Has anyone had issues with this adaptor?? And solved them?? Did I miss something stupid with the?filter head to the block?

Many of us are avid supporters of Donal J Trump, perhaps one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen.  Just because you think socialism works, and you believe the highly prejudiced and liberal leaning press does not make it true.

Furthermore, you are not a citizen of this country; you benefited tremendously from the generosity of us in this country when you were here (and me in particular who in fact made your journey possible), and you have no damn business being so critical of a society to which you neither belong nor are a part.  Stay the hell on your side of the ocean.  This country is absolutely the greatest country on earth, and if it wasn?t for us you?d be speaking German.

England ceased being a power what?  250 years ago?  They had a great 1000 years or so, but have slid into socialism, despite Margaret Thatcher and are being taken over by the Muslims.  They are irrelevant in the world order

William and Kate were the best thing to come out of that country but Charles has worked hard to make them irrelevant.

I have here a skid of letters written by an ancestor, Captain John Macartney, Royal Navy and Captain of HMS PRINCESS AMELIA to the Mayor of Norfolk, Virginia in 1776. The correspondence deals with the refusal by the Mayor to re-victual the seven ships under Captain Mac?s command that were moored in Norfolk harbour. Payment would be in gold but the mayor continued to refuse. At that point, the Captain made it clear he would order his squadron to bring their massed guns to bear on the township and open fire. Fortunately for everyone, the mayor changed his mind and massacre was averted. I apologise for any distress or hard feeling that may still exist in Norfolk and anywhere else :)  ? moored in Norfolk harbour. Payment would be in gold but the mayor continued
to refuse. At that point, the Captain ma  de it clear he would order his
squadron to bring their massed guns to bear on the township and open fire.
Fortunately for everyone, the mayor changed his mind and massacre was
averted. I apologise for any distress or hard feeling that may still exist

Nice! Likewise, my first Triumph (and first car) was a 68 GT6 for which 
I paid $650. Beautiful white (much like the one in the video) with 
custom wood panel sections in the rear hatch rather than the stock 
carpeted floor. When a truck backed over it, I found a 69 GT6+ with the 
improved rear suspension (for $965) - and yes I transferred over the 
wood panel hatch floor. It served me for a while until the lure of the 
240Z reeled me in. I got back to Triumphs, but I often wish I had kept 
the GT6+. Thanks for the reminder!

Say you want to never see another post from me on this list (or anywhere in
your email universe) -- here's how.  No need to leave the list if you just
don't want to read any more of my posts.

These are Gmail instructions.  Other email clients will likely have
something similar.

1.  In Gmail, these are called "rules".  One can create rules to to all
kinds of things, including immediatley deleting emaili from a specifried
address.

2.  To start, open the "Show search options" dialog at the top near the
center of Gmaill.  It's inside the grey "Search mail" box at the far right
side.  Its icon is three horizontal lines with breaks in the lines.

3.  When that dialog opens, you'll have a space where you can put in, say,
my email address.  Ignore the other stufrf and click "Create filter' at the
bottom.

4.  When the filter is created another dialog will open with a list of all
the things you can do with my email.  One of them is "delete".  To trash
anything from me check that box and then "Create filter" again.

5.  Done!

I'm not exactly sure what happens for those getting the digest form of the
list, but it's likely my stuff will still make it through to you.  But the
instant stuff that arrives directly from my email will not be seen.

7.  One can always go back to rules.and change or delete anything you've
created.

I?m unsubscribing.  Political discussions are fine in their place, but I certainly don?t want to read hate filled rants when I open an email to read about Triumphs.   Thanks to those of you who spoke up about it.

I joined Scions of Lucas in 1990 and the Triumph list several years later when it was it formed.  The information has been very helpful (Randall Young was a treasure) and it's been a great way to escape to the happy world of Triumphs even when I?m stuck at a computer.  I?ll miss reading the emails from the many good and interesting people on this list.

Hi Everyone,
	I'm not unsubscribing to the list. As distasteful as I find political discussion intruding on a list with as much expertise and camaraderie as the Triumph List has had over the years, I will not let one ill conceived post cause me to leave.  We should not dissolve our friendships and common interests because we have become so polarized politically.  It's not so hard to understand that is exactly what zealots on both ends of the political spectrum would love us to do, throw us into in-communicational chaos and distrust. 
	My next list inquiry will be about understanding exactly the Zenith-Stromberg temperature compensator actually does...

I joined Scions of Lucas in 1990 and the Triumph list several years later when it was it formed.  The information has been very helpful (Randall Young was a treasure) and it's been a great way to escape to the happy world of Triumphs even when I?m stuck at a computer.  I?ll miss reading the emails from the many good and interesting people on this list.

Over the centuries, our two countries have waxed and waned towards one another which is all part of life and now we seem to be too far apart. PS. I have here a skid of letters written by an ancestor, Captain John Macartney, Royal Navy and Captain of HMS PRINCESS AMELIA to the Mayor of Norfolk, Virginia in 1776. The correspondence deals with the refusal by the Mayor to re-victual the seven ships under Captain Mac?s command that were moored in Norfolk harbour. Payment would be in gold but the mayor continued to refuse. At that point, the Captain made it clear he would order his squadron to bring their massed guns to bear on the township and open fire. Fortunately for everyone, the mayor changed his mind and massacre was averted. I apologise for any distress or hard feeling that may still exist in Norfolk and anywhere else :)

PS. I have here a skid of letters written by an ancestor, Captain John Macartney, Royal Navy and Captain of HMS PRINCESS AMELIA to the Mayor of Norfolk, Virginia in 1776. The correspondence deals with the refusal by the Mayor to re-victual the seven ships under Captain Mac?s command that were moored in Norfolk harbour. Payment would be in gold but the mayor continued to refuse. At that point, the Captain made it clear he would order his squadron to bring their massed guns to bear on the township and open fire. Fortunately for everyone, the mayor changed his mind and massacre was averted. I apologise for any distress or hard feeling that may still exist in Norfolk and anywhere else :)

I've discovered that the front plate gasket leaks.  I've removed the
radiator, alternator and stripped all the bits stripped off the front of
the engine.  My plan was to loosen both ends of both engine mounts and
raise the engine in situ with a jack (don't have a hoist anymore), replace
the plate and declare victory.  Ha!  I have the car on QuickJacks (no plug,
but they're great!), but have hit a wall.  I just can't access the bottom
nuts on either engine mount.  I thought I could loosen the mounts enough to
lift the engine, but with the mounts rigidly mounted to the frame, the
angle of the mount bolts works against me.  Has anyone done this before?  I
could probably force removal but reinstallation with the mounts immovable
would be non-starter, I think.

Other Forums have places like the Triumph Experience has ?The Pub? where drunken fist-throwing virtual drive-by shooting conversations can be had, but even those forums have very strict rules against direct attacks on its members.  

 

I will never tolerate direct attacks on another member, nor does this list allow direct attacks in its use policy.

 

The better response by me, and possibly every other member could or should be: 

 

?hey xyz member, your post violates the terms of use of this list, please withdraw your post, publicly apologize or unsubscribe.? 

? with a link to the list terms and the unsubscribe process.  

 

That is proper decorum and responsible self-moderation by the terms of use for this list.

 

I?ve not used the list is the past for political purposes or intentional violent personal attacks, however the posts of those few others were and are so far outside the use policy and self-moderated decorum for this list that frankly I had enough of the personal attacks.

 

I will make apologies to this list for my atomic weapon going over the top in direct response to the personal attacks; but I will not withdraw it as it is a perfect example of what personal attacks are not in scope of this list, and should be self-moderated.

 

This teams dot net has always self-moderated itself because the users typically held themselves to some level higher level of decorum because they were considered ?responsible members? who agreed to the terms of use.  Flame war personal attacks were never allowed.

 

Passionate hobby enthusiasm about our vehicles is far different than directly attacking other enthusiasts, and when that happens, a responsible person unsubscribes when they cannot self-moderate, and a responsible list user calls them out on their abuse of the list terms.

 

I did not start the battle nor have I leveraged the forums in the past for political reasons. 

 

The attacks by several members were deliberate and targeted made to incite a political flame war, so it needed to be moderated by the responsible users of this list and the posters notified the content was so far outside the purpose of this mail list they should be warned or banned.  

 

Those who decide to unsubscribe from this list because they cannot freely attack other members on this list or separate their politics from the hobby, that is entirely their right and is the rules of using this list.

 

The only flags flown here should be those of Standard Triumph, British Leyland, JLR, or if one?s politics so consume your life that it cannot be separated from this hobby in the list posts or at marque shows, please leave.

I don?t have experience with this scenario but I think you should look at putting the frame on blocks and taking the wheels off. Then I think the motor mount nuts will be accessible from the rear. A Gearwrench ratchet or long handled wrench may be desirable.

Friend has had a 62 or 63 TR4 since college (mid eighties) amateur
restoration then, no rust, shiny but not perfect, little use. Won't run,
can't convince him to get it running, he is asking how much it is worth.

Picture a car with nice paint, interior and engine compartment, not
concourse, but redone and complete, but a few ripples and bit of orange
peal in the paint, original spec, royal blue.  Ballpark for a non-runner?
I am thinking $6-8k realistic, not optimistic.

I am still going to work on him to get it running, as I really think it is
just spark or fuel delivery.

Anyway, thoughts appreciated, I think it is at about 60k miles, but that is
not documented.

A bit over a week ago I posted about a TR4 that was in similar 
condition, but running, that sold for $8,000.  So I would say that you 
are pretty close on your guess.  Closer to 6 than 8, though.

The newsletter of the Houston Club, the Blue Bonnet, lists recent trends on Bring a Trailer and featured the TR4 in the June issue.? Prices ranged from $ 5,300 (project) to $26,000.? But most were in the range of $11,000 to $18,000.? $6 - 8 K should be achievable.

Hi Jim,
I think I understand the situation.  I found that the engine was easier to remove or drop into place on the frame, if one mount was bolted the plate and the other to the frame.  Then the angle of the studs on the top side of the mounts did not interfere as they would if both mounts were secured to the frame.  I think this could work for just removing the front plate.  Remove one side from the frame and the other from the plate depending on access.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your tip.  Although I read it after I replaced the front plate,
that's basically the method we used.  I found an easier ("less difficult"?)
to access the underside engine mount nuts.  I'll document the entire
process in case someone else is faced with this task.
