Another friend worked in sales for IBM. The rule was that if you take a client to lunch and he has a drink or two it is ok to have a drink or two. But DO NOT come bake to the office that afternoon.

Here in St. Louis is (or was) the headquarters of Anheuser Busch and back in the day they had a policy where on could drink on the job. Not a problem as they usually had a million or so gallons of beer on hand at all times. A friend, Tom, took a job as an accountant. His job was the annual Income tax return. At any rate, when he first got on he went into a meeting with his boss at 8:00 AM. His boss asked him if he wanted a beer. Somewhat aghast, Tom said something in the lines of "not this early in the day." At this point his boss went to the refrigerator in his office and got out two bottles of beer. Tom said "I said I didn't want one" at which point his boss said "No, these are for me."
As we home brewers like to say, you can't say you've been drinking all day if you don't start in the morning.

A former brother-in-law worked as an architect in Minneapolis. The rule was that one was not allowed to drink beer in the office until after noon.
