Just a guess but they loved spot welds so it may be spot welded.  If that is the case it is just a matter of finding the spots and drilling them out.  I did that on my TR6 when I replaced the hump on the parcel shelf with a flat piece.  I now have a flat parcel shelf.  (The IRS doesn't need the hump.)

Is the battery box welded in?  glued in?  bolted in?  I can’t really tell.  Is it welded in then that’s seam sealer around it?  I am pretty sure this car is very original; the window sticker is 1972 and the car does not look like its been messed with, just neglected
