Dave,
I've always scrapped off as much of the big stuff as possible with plastic putty knives, the used a parts washer with solvent (not the water-based stuff - https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/crown-psc-1000-parts-cleaner-5-gal-3893915) to clean and degrease everything. Finally, media blasting before using Eastwood Chassis Black Primer and Paint (https://www.eastwood.com/paints/under-car-coatings/chassis-frame-paints.html). Stuff looks like new when done, so you can reassemble it and get it dirty again!

Just took apart the front suspension of a 58 TR3 which has been off the road for many years (the window sticker says 1972).
Best way to get rid of all that greasy gunk so I can clean, repaint, and reassemble? I do have a really good powerwasher.
