Dave, you are partly correct about Old Pigs Ear beer. It’s now called just Pigs Ear and is brewed by the Uley Brewery in Gloucestershire (pronounced Glostershuh). It’s therefore a very local brew to where I live and has won several prizes in competitions run by our Campaign for Real Ales (CAMRA). It’s a pale ale, very hoppy and is a tad over 5% alcohol. After a few pints, you’ll be ready to drive fast through speed limits and not get caught. The ‘old’ part of its original name was removed when a group supporting ageism in general felt it was unkind to elderly people. They didn’t seem to think about what the pigs felt about it....

As a diversion I googled "Old Pig's Ear" and And did not find any reference to a British brewery serving "Old Pig's Ear" but there is a brewery in New Hampshire offering up "Pig's Ear Brown" which is an English style beer. Sounds yummy. I must check it out.
