Ye gods, the BBC is obviously still foisting yet more prehistoric programmes
on the long-suffering?
That series was shot the better part of at least forty years ago, long
before unleaded fuel was available in the UK and when even the tight-fisted
BBC was willing to pay a London Warren Street autotrader *very* nominal
money to buy a beat-up car, pay someone to give it a good clean and try not
to get the cameras too close when the car(s) were 'in shot'.
There are two other angles as well.
The police uniforms were discontinued in the early eighties (I wore one when
I was in the voluntary reserve force) in favour of body armour and digital
tech, while the motorcycle that puts in the occasional appearance is a
watercooled Ariel (standard police issue in the day) and there really are
even fewer of those gracing our roads today than rusted out Heralds.
