Dave, honestly, I don't have that problem with Facebook. I restrict my
advertising choices in the app and use a desktop add-on called
Facebook Purity that allows me to eliminate most all of the crap FB
throws into my feed. (https://www.fbpurity.com/) . I don't use FB on
my phone because I find the phone version cluttered and restrictive
and because FBPurity does not have a phone version. I also use AdBlock
and Ghostery in the Duck Duck Go browser for more personal web
security and privacy. While I don't use Windows as an operating system
because of security concerns (I use Mageia Linux), but if you use it,
Microsoft collects massive telemetry from you. I'd suggest using
Win11Debloat (https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat) -- there's a
Windows 10 version as well -- to address any security/privacy concerns
you may have. You'll always leak a little data anywhere you go on the
WWW, I just try to leak as little as possible. As well, I see a wide
range of political posts on FB, but I do occasionally see proven
disinformation debunked, but I can still click on it and see it if I
want.

I built our club’s Web site but another member does all the club’s socials. I could not very well support their Facebook pages when I did not have an account. I would much rather trust Mark B. with my data than an entity like Facebook. But, like everything else here, to each his own.

You will notice, if you are a facebook user, that you get many ads, etc., in facebook that have been culled from your searches, etc. Facebook is collecting ALL your data from your web browsers and elsewhere on your computer and phone. If you use Facebook, and I do this, go to chrome, then go to incognito mode, then log into facebook. This keeps it from collecting information from that, and your other browsers. It’s a hassle I admit, but well worth it. Facebook is EXTREMELY invasive.
