I restrict my advertising choices in the app and use a desktop add-on called Facebook Purity that allows me to eliminate most all of the crap FB throws into my feed. (https://www.fbpurity.com/) . I don't use FB on my phone because I find the phone version cluttered and restrictive and because FBPurity does not have a phone version. I also use AdBlock and Ghostery in the Duck Duck Go browser for more personal web security and privacy. While I don't use Windows as an operating system because of security concerns (I use Mageia Linux), but if you use it, Microsoft collects massive telemetry from you. I'd suggest using Win11Debloat (https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat) -- there's a Windows 10 version as well -- to address any security/privacy concerns you may have. You'll always leak a little data anywhere you go on the WWW, I just try to leak as little as possible. As well, I see a wide range of political posts on FB, but I do occasionally see proven disinformation debunked, but I can still click on it and see it if I want. Facebook is extremely aggressive about polluting your computer and collecting data. You will notice, if you are a facebook user, that you get many ads, etc., in facebook that have been culled from your searches, etc. Facebook is collecting ALL your data from your web browsers and elsewhere on your computer and phone. If you use Facebook, and I do this, go to chrome, then go to incognito mode, then log into facebook. This keeps it from collecting information from that, and your other browsers. Last year I had Allen install new tires and balance my wire wheels. I saw he also did brake drum balancing so I also took in my brake drums this time. He added a 1 ounce weight to one of the drums. The other one was fine. (He said Austin Healey drums usually need balancing; Triumphs are usually ok, but mine wasn't). I've been driving for a year with absolutely no vibration at any speed. He had everything near perfect when he set up the new wheels 10 years ago. Now, they're perfect. Allen also told me that he balances steel disc wheels using the 4 bolt holes to secure the wheel instead of a cone in the center hole. He said that's how Triumph dealers balanced them and it's necessary to get a good balance because the center hole in Triumph wheels was not intended to be a precise center locator. My tires are Vredestein Sprint Classic 185/70R15 on 5.5" 72 spoke wheels. I decided to get these wider wheels and tires after the skinny rear tires slipped on some high speed curves. Ignore any posts that show Hendrix Wire Wheel is permanently closed. Allen had Yelp and some others show he's permanently closed because they kept sending him customers looking for all kinds of modern car service. He's still there and doing great work. Well worth a long trip to Greensboro NC to see him or the cost of shipping wheels. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: As it seems most of the list is lookin' for a bit more activity, and there's only so much we can say about FB, here's something for everyone to chew on for a bit... Last year I got a set of Race Ramps to make it easier to work under the TR3B. These lightweight, bedliner-coated expanded polystyrene foam blocks, made in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, are pricey little devils, but these things are doing everything I wanted from them and they're holding up fine. Race Ramps make a variety of these things, some literally configured as ramps and others (like mine) that work as cribbing to raise the wheels. My set of 2-piece 12-inch ramps give me about 18 inches of clearance from the garage floor to the bottom of the frame. More than enough for access, especially as the complete underside is open -- the Race Ramps are under the tires. I'll be under the car tomorrow bleeding the brakes as part of my DOT5 conversion. To get the TR this high I have to jack the car four times to place the Race Ramps: front (first half of cribbing), back (another first set), front again (second half), and finally the back (second half and done). Lowering the car is the same process. Not terribly convenient, so the car goes up when it's gonna be there for a bit. Here they are in use (the second photo at my new place outside Santa Fe). I might have had room for a two-post or four-post lift, but truly, the Race Ramps are enough. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-kd3zj3n/0/MbSczx6GLh4xrTfGZWJZLVkKP7vNSkpXZvzJH3bsP/X5/i-kd3zj3n-X5.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-qbCWt9N/0/MVbCvwC4TDtt9h65nmT5TqdBS3dg7NQwnBR5rtM82/X5/i-qbCWt9N-X5.jpg -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Only this afternoon, I was driving two grandsons (in teens) and with a same age friend home from school. On the way and stuck in traffic, I was asked if I thought smartphone technology was advantageous to my lifestyle. I said it wasn?t, explaining I only use my phone to make and receive the occasional call or to send/receive the even more occasional text. I don?t use it for anything else and when using my mobility scooter in populated areas I tend to not avoid those who can?t walk anywhere unless they?re glued to a handheld screen and oblivious to everything surrounding them. So I just drive at them because the scooter has outstanding brakes. Twenty plus years ago, I refused to allow my company provided car to be fitted with a car phone because driving in this overcrowded island then demanded total attention at all times. It?s even worse now. My boss and his boss were of the same view so I was ?protected? from those who held divergent opinions. Some years later, i had a colleague who never answered his employer provided smartphone if he was driving and would throw it out of the window whenever it rang. He got through a lot of phones in the course of a year until it was decided to give him a telephone credit card instead. > But I?m not totally resistant to technology and spend a lot of time writing on my laptop. For those of you who follow developments outside of the US and Canada, some may be aware that in July of this year we had a change of government from Conservative to Centre-Left Socialist. Whenever we have a socialist administration in the UK since WW2, retail prices and indirect taxation usually go through the roof and, true to form, this has happened again following a revised budget announced in parliament less than two weeks ago. In order to plug an alleged 'black hole' of GBP25billion to be recovered in the next year, our Chancellor has stated that: 1. The National Living wage will be increased by about 15%, and 2. Employer contributions for National insurance (an employment tax for state pensions and our state health costs) will increase at the top end from 13.8% to 15%, while the threshold for payment of this tax will go backwards from GBP9,100 per employee down to GBP5,000. This is going to have a massive impact on job security for lower paid people and is almost certainly going to see a large number of people being let go from their current jobs and find themselves once more on the jobs market. Collectively, these two major changes are going to have a major impact on selling prices across the board - not only for sales made to UK customers, but it will seriously impact on exports too. Consequently, it's highly likely that UK parts suppliers will have to radically adjust their prices UPWARDS from present levels. If that was not enough, no-one on this side of the pond has the remotest idea of what these changes will have on the Dollar/Pound exchange rate. The final 'whammy' is that President Elect Trump has declared to European media on several occasions that in order to protect US business interests, actions will be taken once he is in the White House to levy a 20% import duty on all imports coming into the US from non-American territories. So, if that does actually happen, the items you may be presently or thinking about buying from the UK are going to cost you rather more than previously and especially if the European postal conglomerate also decide to hike the costs for international deliveries. These usually also occur in the first three months after every New Year as well! I said in the subject line that this message is strictly non-political but I thought that all of you who may be planning to buy bits for your Austin Healey / Jaguar / MG / Sunbeam / Triumph or whatever, out of the UK, may want to bring your purchase forwards before the White House changes occupants? There's little that can be done on points 1 and 2 above as it's already in force but as much of my earlier career was spent in trying to sell parts to US importers in the past - and often banging my head on a brick wall with frustration, I can see that issue raising its ugly head yet again. Ah well, what goes around usually comes around at later dates in a variety of guises. Be assured, no-one has told me prices are going to increase but the changes we're facing here on a number of fronts are going to mean that in the near future, many things are likely to be a lot different - and by no means an improvement on what went before. Good luck Jonmac -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The CC's have an extra relay which the CF models do not.? This relay works the emergency flasher whereas the CF models have a more complicated switch that makes this relay unnecessary.? Therefore you could not fit it where it goes on the CF models.? Your solution will work out fine, however. If Moss publications in the States are as inaccurate as the ones they used to offer in the UK, nothing would surprise me that they?re now inventing colours. I wonder if there was a time when they couldn't get Light Tan so they substituted Honey Tan and just kept it as an option. The two colors are close with Honey Tan having more "gold" in it. A few years ago, I had a discussion with them about their vinyl and I was told that all the colors are proprietary to them. At least they took my advice about making their vinyl available to buy "by the yard".
