There are rubber seals for the brake and clutch compartments respectively, but for around $100 I'd probably just replace the whole thing. I don't want to "advertise" the car (Bring a Trailer, eBay, etc) as we are in a gated community and I'd rather just sell to an enthusiast or bring it back to Michigan to finish some outstanding issues, like the overdrive which has no wiring or solenoid. Two months ago I came across a TR3 which had been sitting for decades: I brought it back to our house in Florida and have been working on it ever since. To date: New battery. New spin-on oil filter adaptor. New distributor cap and leads. New brakes front (pads) and rear (shoes, springs), new calipers, rotors and hoses. New master cylinders, clutch slave and hose. New front wheel bearings. New ball joint and upper A-arm bushings (PS). Four new 165 x 80 x 15 tires and inner tubes on 48-spoke painted wire wheels. New gas tank / fittings / fuel pump. New windscreen wipers and lower windscreen seal. One replacement front hub. Two replacement restored horns. Replacement carburetors and linkages: two new carb jet assemblies. New copper and rubber gas lines with new in-line gas filter. Replacement generator. Replacement heater valve and pipe. New radiator hoses, new water pump, new thermostat. Steering wheel recovered. Replacement AMCO sidescreens. Yesterday we started her up and ran the engine for about 20 minutes. Today I hope to get out and drive it. I either ship the car back to Michigan or sell before we leave here mid-April. If anyone knows of someone looking for a nice daily driver, contact me for more details ! When I got the message, I decided to get the uprated yellow fan for my TR-6. I think it almost matches the body cover. By 1971, I'd sold my TR-3 bit if I'd known then about TRF, I think I might have kept it. I couldn't get things like trunk hinges or enough of the "snaps" that held the top to the Windscreen from the Triumph dealer near me. I?ve been running wire wheels on my TR6 for about 25 years. I love the look of wires, but they have been no end of difficulty. Balancing- Most tire shops say they can balance wire wheels, but they can?t. Over time it?s been hit and miss as to whether I can get the wheels properly balanced. Last year I got balancing cones form Moss that largely eliminated that issue. The resin cones I got were not in the Moss catalog and were much cheaper than the steel set listed in the Moss catalog. Quality of the wheels themselves- I don?t do much spirited driving, but I?ve had difficulty with the hubs of the Dayton wheels I have wearing out to the point that there is an audible clunk when starting from the play in the wheel hubs. This issue is much more pronounced on the rear drive wheels. I?ve also had issues with the durability of the wheels finish. This is on a car that is fair weather driver. As I?ve said, these wheels are about 25 years old and have about 40,000 miles on them. At this point I need to replace at least 2 of the wheels. When I called Dayton they told me that, while chrome wires were in stock, they only special order painted wire wheels and the process takes about 4-6 weeks. They also said that the charge for chrome wires and painted wires are the same. Moss sells MWS wire wheels, which I?m guessing is a new name for the Dunlap wires they previously sold. My questions are, are others having the same issue with their wire wheels, and are folks using the MWS wheels from Moss having better(good) luck with their wires? Essentially, it boils down to bad machining on the hub and poor quality of the mating surfaces on the wheel centre spline. Over a period of time the snugness of fit becomes sloppier no matter how tight the centre lock spinner. My younger son had the same complaint with his fully restored 1970 MG Midget and in the end, the only cure was four new wheels, four new splined hubs and a goodly dollop of copperslip on the mating surfaces. I?m told by those in the know that this is a perennial problem with people with E type Jaguars when they all came ex factory with chrome or painted wire wheels. Radiator and brand new Vinyl Top Message-ID: Hi, I have two things I want to clear out from my congested work area. They represent my mistakes, so out they go at low low prices a TR3/TR4 Radiator with the long neck. I didn't like how close the top of the radiator was to the underneath surface of the bonnet. My car is a TR4, there may be more everyday clearance on the TR3. I used the radiator for ten miles and pulled it, and replaced it with one without the long neck. If you are interested 125 bucks includes the shipping. My Robbins vinyl top has never been installed. There are three levels of quality for tops and this one is the correct choice for concourse. I changed my mind, and went with the Everlast fabric and it was too late to return the vinyl one. Also 125 bucks including shipping.. I would not be offended if you scarf up these parts and resell them for profit. I want my garage space ! Message-ID: I am in the process of replacing the timing chain cover for a 1972 TR6 with the Goodparts one (there were lots of oil leaks up front) https://www.goodparts.com/product/timing-cover-two-piece-aluminum/ The hole just down and to the left of the chalked hole was stripped. That helicoil is in. Next I need to put a helicoil in the chalked hole; it is also stripped. The steering rack makes that impossible. I?m thinking I need to disconnect the steering rack on the passenger side so I can rotate it up and out of the way. I?m open to ideas here ? I did think of just using a bolt with a slightly larger thread ? probably metric. Typical move for a DPO! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
