I have used the electric fuel pump made in New Zealand , part number ECCO 15LM12 cost $80. It works just like an SU pump and fits on the same mouting with no madifications needs. I fitted one on my Stag and on my E type . Rimmers used to sell them but they don't anymore . Don't buy the alternative one they offer.

Subject: [TR] TR3A Fuel pump
All - I'm sure this has been discussed before but my question is this - I have a freiend who plans to install a Moss supplied electric fuel pump to his TR3A. I don't know if it is the Facet pump or the universal Lucas pump. Any suggestions on the best place to mount this pump. I assume at the back of the car is best, below the fuel tank level.
Thanks.

Been there done that. You need to insulate the mounting. Rubber grommets work well.
Do not buy Mr Gasket; they do not last. I'm sorry you bought it from Moss. You paid too much and it's probably low quality. NAPA has them in stock. You need the 2 to 4 PSI.

Did you mount an inertial cutoff switch, TeriAnn? What are your thoughts there?
I did not think about one for the TR3. If I'm hit hard enough to trip one I don't expect a good personal outcome. And the key is right there. I do have one (from a fox body Mustang) in the Land Rover which has EFI 5.0 just in case the truck falls over or some such on the trail. It has taken a lot on bouncing at different angles and has never tripped. I think it would take a large impact to trip one. There is a big difference in the amount that can flow at 2-3 lb pressure & the amount at high volume 45 PSI before you can hit the ignition switch. I don't think cars had cutoff switches before EFI volume & pressure pumps.

On my TR3 I mounted an electric fuel pump and fuel filter before the pump on the inside of the frame rail. I fabricated a metal mounting plate to mount them to the frame rail by the fuel tank. In general electric fuel pumps are good at pushing fuel but not so much as pulling fuel so having it below the bottom of the tank makes it easier. Especially after running out of fuel.

Way too much can be a relative term. Those Facit pumps are way loud and I don't think much about their longevity. I ended up paying a LOT more for a German made fuel pump because I was looking for a quality quiet pump that should last longer.

The only time I used a FACET fuel pump it failed on me after about 13,000 miles in the middle of a major junction in Vancouver in the rush hour! I think this was because it wanted to operate at around 8psi when the carbs only needed 2 to 3 psi and therefore a restrictor had to be put in the delivery line.
I wasn’t aware Lucas made a fuel pump - apart from the ones for the fuel injected cars - and those run at 150psi which is way too high.
Personally, I’d always go for the original SU type of pump now made by Burlein Fuel Systems and mount it as others have stated close to the tank. Ensure its blowing and not sucking. It’s a solid state unit so *should* last a long time and it pushes at the correct 2-3psi pressure. The fitment of an inertia switch should be an absolute imperative. Not only is it an important safety feature but an excellent anti-theft device.
My two pence worth

The Hardi pump I’m using is German. As I mentioned earlier it was my local mechanic, British Motorsports, who recommended the Hardi fuel pump. I’m very happy with it, and it’s very quiet.

=I threw away one of those 5-vane "uprated" water pumps a couple of years ago. I put back my TR3B's original pump after its rebuilding by EP Services in the UK (along with a few other things to the cooling system like flushing block-radiator, remounting front apron-deflecfor, and fitting Macy's "Hurricane" fan).
The car now runs as cool as when I got it 42 years ago. Maybe cooler, despite moving to 87mm pistons and liners. Prior to those changes it ran hot for ten years, right on one side or another of boiling over.
I took the pump over during one of my visits to Goodwood and brought it home during another, with help from friends in the UK. But I could have posted it both ways. I'm sure somebody over here rebuilds water pumps like ours to original spec, but the vintage British sportscar ecosystem is so good in the UK I take advantage of it when possible.
A proper-functioning water pump wasn't the only change, but I give it the most credit. Proceed with caution around what are claimed as modern improvements.
