Dave;
I rebuilt or replaced every component of my TR3A steering assembly,
including the box, last year. The only part I didn't touch was the worm
gear in the box, though I replaced all the bearings on each end of the
worm. Despite every effort to make certain all parts were
within tolerances, installing shims in various combinations, I just
couldn't get the steering to feel right and the steering wheel required too
much effort. No doubt, better mechanics than I have succeeded here. I ended
up replacing the entire rack by pulling the front apron and radiator and
installing a Moss rack-and-pinion rack (Moss 667-248).. The steering now is
much easier and accurate.
Alternatively, you can have Macy's Garage rebuild your steering box for you
or follow their step-by-step instructions and brave it yourself.

Having said that, I note that it seems the price of British parts at Moss
and TRF have increased dramatically in the last 6-8 months.
Best of luck to you and Happy Thanksgiving!
