My TR3B recently came back from some work that involved having the front apron and headlights off the car. I checked the headlights. Ugh. Not even close.https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-66jhPmK/0/2d54dc90/X5/i-66jhPmK-X5.jpg
I'm going to try H4 LEDs to reduce the load on the generator, and I'll get the vertical alignment taken care of then.

I seem to recall, back in the day, that the you aim the lights to maintain a horizontal low beam cut-off so as not to blind oncoming traffic. What I would do is find a flat parking lot next to a building and park the car close to and pointing at the building. Mark the cut-off point on the wall (masking tape or something non-permanent). Then I back the car away a good distance (20 to 50 ft) and adjust the headlights to that cut-off point.
Back in the day, the old-school sealed beams were not very bright and a poor job of aiming wasn't a big deal. A friend bought a late 70's Cadillac and complained about one of the head light and asked me to look at it. I found that it was installed up-side-down and had been that was since leaving the factory. But if you are using some high-performance lights aiming becomes more important.
