WD 40 was developed for Vietnam. It stand for Water displacement. Its really good for providing a protective coat on metal in a wet/humid environment. It’s a lousy lubricant and rust remover. its also flammable and toxic to the environment.

I only use WD40 as a lubricant when cutting aluminum in my lathe. It's mostly worthless for anything else compared to other chemicals.
