[TR] KROIL

Well, Kroil is good, but not that good. I just looked at my Kano Lab folder and I see I paid $8.20 per large can for a case of 12 back in 2007. I believe they were the large, 16 oz. cans but I could be wrong. Naturally, over the years, things got more expensive. I also bought a case of something called Weatherpruf which was a non-volatile, cosmoline type of coating to keep items from rusting over long term storage. That was a good product and I see they no longer offer it. That’s too bad. I also see that the company no longer sells direct to the consumer, but only through distributors. As we all know, anything from Amazon will be sold at a premium. From their (Kano) website, it appears that the company was sold a couple of years ago, probably the reason for so many changes. One thing that really is aggravating is when you buy a bunch of spray cans and then in time, some of them loose their propellant. Now you have full cans with no easy way of getting the product out. I think the Kroil cans had an overly high incidence of that happening.

I bought a gallon can in 2017 – it was $53 for one can that you could use in either a pump style sprayer or a pressurized sprayer. That was a good value but I made the mistake of buying the Silikroil version. I found out in a hurry that if you ever want to paint something that you used Silikroil on, the paint would just bead up, no matter how much you pressure washed the item. I’ll never buy that again. It’s also over $100 per gallon now. Based on their current marketing strategy, I don’t think I will be writing any more checks to Kano Labs for Kroil.

I bought a gallon of PB Blaster along with a metal bodied pump sprayer for about $30 at NAPA store. That was and is a good value and that’s what I would suggest. I think the PB Blaster has more of a residual lubricating effect and I find that works well on things like ratchet binders and things like that. It is also a credible penetrant, especially with a bit of heat. Plus, if you are at a local store to buy that sort of thing, you don’t experience what amounts to incredibly high shipping costs.

I agree – I don’t use WD40 much. I have found it can cause rusting of unprotected surfaces.

I'm down to my last spray can of this stuff. It lasted a long time, but I just got a shock on the price of a new 16 OZ can at $36 off Amazon. I'm in California and serious rust isn't an issue.

It is good, but is there something cheaper that folks are happy with? Please don't recommend WD40. I've used JB80 before someone recommended Kroil, but that is about 23$ for a similar size can.
