I've been able to pry them off gently without completely destroying them - but then I've destroyed a few also. Mine have a hole in the center - and I've tried using a small slide hammer (with a screw on the business end screwed into the hole) but it usually just fails by enlarging the hole. So the prying method is all I figured out.
