[TR] Trickle chargers and drills

My son, who is a mechanic, gave me a Milwaukee 18 volt drill and it’s pretty amazing.

As for a trickle charger, be aware and do your homework as I’ve learned that they aren’t as plug and play as you’d think. A restoration shop I’m using told me even the Battery Tender Junior he’s seen catch fire and burn up the car and the garage it’s in. I now have a timer on the trickle charger so it will cycle on and off every other day. I also have an Airsteam trailer and found out the hard way, not a fire thankfully, that even the charger/converter that came with the trailer when plugged into shore power baked the 2 deep cycle batteries. I was then directed to new unit on Amazon that I installed, that is designed to plug in and leave it for months and months, no issue.

Back to a battery charger for your car, this one is crazy expensive which I received as a gift from my wife for my Porsche 356. Before using it I checked to see if this was a plug and play for months charger, and it is.

So I’ll be watching this topic to see if there are other chargers out there that are safe to leave plugged in for months at a time.

Good luck,
