I have not been in this game all that long – restored my first TR in 2004 – but I remember buying overdrive units for less than $300. But those were the days when gas was – what? - $1.60 a gallon ?

Oh no, “I remember when…..” – I am becoming an old man.  The next thing you know someone will say I am grumpy !

Local guy has one on Craigslist, advertised as inoperative transmission, overdrive unknown, wants $1100.  Asking is not getting, but for known good or rebuilt probably $1000 or more--maybe under a grand for club buddy price, but more commercial type transaction grand would probably be the low end.
