[TR] Valve ticking

My 1976 TR6 has a little ticking sound at idle, as if a valve is sticking a bit.  I am curious if I can assume that this is normal rattle on these engines as things wear or if I should start paying closer attention.  To my knowledge the valve seats have never been hardened.  I recently set the valve lash and believe it is spot on.  Engine has about 54,000 miles.  Also, does anyone use an oil additive on a regular basis and what has been your experience or recommendations.  Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.David Gill1976 TR6
