Indeed. My thinking as to why it goes away when warm is this:
If the splines are dry or if the grease gets ladened with dirt and such they will stick a bit. As the car warms up it is because it is being driven which will loosen up the stickiness and it will start to behave better until it sits a while and cools off.

I repacked the splines with grease to get by for a while, I’ll fix it properly when I decide it bothers me enough. Why Triumph didn’t put a grease fitting on the sliding joint is a mystery to me.
