Hi Dave,

Actually, Triumph was using metallic colors at least as early as 1949. >From the Roadster Club archives, the ’49 color choices included:

COLOUR SCHEMES FOR THE 2000 ROADSTER: From 1949 Sales Brochure.

Lumina Green, LuminaChampagne, Grey, Lumina Grey, Black

>From the same article:

TheTriumph "Lumina" colours were among the first metallic finishes offered on a production car. The actual colours were darker than onmany current Roadster resprays. Some originalspecimens survive to support this view although it is possible that they may have darkened with age. Nevertheless, many consider that the lighter shades now being chosen are more attractive

I also came across some color charts from back in the day, I don’t know what good they are, but they are attached.

Bob

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Not really a pearl white. It would still be interesting to know if someone has determined the correct color besides what it’s called by Triumph.

I don’t know but I would doubt TR was using any metallics or pearlescent paints back then. It may turn out to be their version of Old English White.

Thanks Bill,

This chart looks like good information.

While trying to match Primrose/Pale Yellow on my '59 TR3, the numbers didn't translate to available modern paint. I settled on using the later '68 Jasmine to get a code. A computer read on the Primrose listed a VW Beetle convertible color named, if I remember correctly, Mello Yellow, which looks right on, when I see one of these cars on the road.

I'm just wondering if there was really any pearlescent in the original white.

Is it obvious and or look very pearlescent?

Dave,

Try this site, gives a couple of paint codes for Pearl White, depending on the year.

Hello TR listers,
I have a TR2 long door that was originally pearl white with blue interior. I haven't found any pearl or hint of any metallic in any of the remaining original paint. Does anyone have knowledge of this particular Triumph color that they can share?
Was it just a bright white? It sure looks bright, but no evidence of any pearl.
