[TR] How easy is it to get a Spitfire through a CA smog?

Sujit, as you know, 1975 and older vehicles do not get smog checked in CA, so the missing smog parts are not a problem with those cars. For newer than ’75 it is a problem. Moss list some small emissions items, but no smog pumps. Rebuilt ones are on the internet for about $100. All the big retail auto parts stores have them. RockAuto $98.89 including the core charge. You can probably cobble the smog system back together for about $200.

First of all, your best bet is to move out of California. Who needs the hassle???

Second option is to find a friend that lives in a state that isn’t so hard on old cars. Register your car there

I remember looking at a $800 Spitfire years ago. The smog stuff had been removed. Someone said not to touch a Spitfire if the smog stuff has been removed as it could cost that much to get it back on the road.
Just pondering. If I get a later Spitfire which has been off the road but has the smog stuff on it, what would it cost (worse case) to make is compliant? Are smog related bits available?
