Listers,

Regarding timing lights I have used a Snap-On dial back light for decades. I also have a Sears dial back unit and the readings are the same.

Finally, after a decade +, I pulled the vinyl convertible top out of the box
getting ready to install. Other than using a hair dryer or sunny day to get
the folds out, are there any other recommendations?

I would define vote for the sunny day. But I did have to get my top out last November, I pointed my small propane redi-heater into the window and it did the job after about 5-10 minutes.

DO NOT put the top on when it's hot!.??? come cooler weather you'll never
get it back up!

Granted perhaps not your specific vehile, but technique and tips are all

My old Penske timing light that I've had for decades finally gave out
yesterday, so I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable but not too
expensive replacement. What has worked for you? I do have a few bucks
worth of Speed Perks credit at Advance Auto; anything there?

Thanks,

Hi Doug,
If it?s a Robbins top be really sure the top still fits before going to all the trouble to install it. I put a Robbins Sunfast top on my TR6 years ago, and although, it looks great when up or down, it is a lot of work to puit up under cool conditions. About a year ago I spoke to a well respected installer who told me that the rear window section of the Robbins tops are short and thus Robbins tops are always a tight fit. I found that my previous vinyl top was difficult to get up unless is was either very warm - it was also a Robbins top. In spite of what Robbins said when I contacted them, their tops don?t stretch after they have been installed and left in the sun?
I?d be curious to know if anyone has had better luck with their top installations.
        Best,
        Bob

Innova 5568. Great tool.

Subject: [TR] timing light recommendation?

My old Penske timing light that I've had for decades finally gave out yesterday, so I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable but not too expensive replacement. What has worked for you? I do have a few bucks worth of Speed Perks credit at Advance Auto; anything there?

Thanks,

Robert, although I wasn't aware it was the rear window area that was short,
mine (self installed) takes a bit of effort to get up on all but the
hottest of days. My first top install, I put it on in the sun. It looks
very good, but is tight.

If I had this to do over I would probably install on a warm day out of the
sun.

I always store for the my winter or extended periods of time with the top
up, my theory is it can't shrink with the top up, or at least is less
likely to.
