 Yes, the US does seem to be the odd man out.  Of course, the US military does use the more logical day/month/year format.
It is for this reason I prefer the less ambiguous three letter abbreviation for the month.  Mar 5 2020 will never be confused with 3 May 2020.

Palindromic in both sides of the Atlantic as well.......

I remember growing up in Ireland sending a birthday card to a pen pal I had
in the US.  His birthday was 03.05, so I naturally sent the card to arrive
on the third of May.....
