I thought about that, Randy -- the car had a slightly Italianate look, and the shape of the head badge in my (poor) photo looked a bit like the Maserati oval badge.

The rear view in my second image was very distinctive.  Gotta check Masers for that angle.

Driving colleagues through the small streets in La Jolla in late February, I saw an interesting vintage sports car oncoming.  Grabbed a couple of bad shots before it got out of sight.

But exactly what is it?  I can't really even offer a guess...
