We did likewise in our 1967 TR4A.  Drove from Columbus, OH to Stowe, VT and back in 1974.  Sir Lucas struck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in a driving rainstorm.  No lights or wipers! Luckily, there was a mechanic at the next exit who still worked on cars!

My wife and used my TR6 to leave our wedding with cans attached to the back and  writing on the windshield etc. Fond memories! David
