Does anyone have anything to add about the information I provided about a what looks like a 5th casting for 4 cylinder TRs? I hope the message came through with the attached photos.

Early ones have the rounded thermostat casting and later ones have the angled one. However, I have two heads that I have not found information. These heads are like the TR4A head casting in that they have the flat between the front stud holes, but are other wise similar to the later TR3 casting. They are stamped 510084 on the flat. TR4As are stamped 511695. They might be TR4. They have the two different valve stem sized guides, the step down in diameter of the intake port, like high port TR3s and they have the angled t-stat casting.

According to this guy, there was a variation in the thermostat housing, some of which were more sloping than rounded. He claimed the sloped design was more attractive as it lended itself to more shaving and thus a better, high compression engine.
