[TR] '3a carb piston getting stuck....

The "ding" is most likely the cause.  There should be some scuffing on the inside where the ding is.  You can probably carefully sand it down.  The dome and pistons should be handled very carefully.  The slightest damage can cause problems.  I've tested dome and piston pairs for the same drop rate by covering the air passages and turning them upside down on the bench, to compare their fall.
