[TR] TR4A plug check

Did you have the head / valve job done and did your shop talk you into bronze valve guides? For some reason in our TR4 heads bronze guides have been problematic and result in valves sticking open. Compression check is in order but do it when the engine is good and hot.

John -

I'm no expert but I think you're looking for something unique to each cylinder - I would start with a compression check and then look at valve clearances.

Probably best to clean the plugs and do a 'plug cut' or at least drive hard with minimal idling to get a fair comparison.

  List,
Have 1500 miles on rebuilt engine and Stromberg carbs. Was running good. Recently seemed to have lost a little power. Pulled the plugs. Looking for some clue as to the reason for what l found... #1 plug was black and slightly wet. #2 looked like the mixture was good. #3 was black but dry. #4 looked a little lean. Last pulled the plugs at about 1000 miles. They looked normal. Of course, I'm trying to figure out why plugs on the same carb are so different. Did not get them mixed up. Appreciate any ideas.
