[TR] TR4

Piggot has some amazing photos and has appointed himself as the last authority on all things TR related but his research is not compete with some omissions. His volumes are basically all the same with content moved around to appear as different. I tried to communicate with him and the publisher to offer a few corrections based upon my TR4A’s original unique color combination, (yes I have the Heritage Certificate to back it up as original) and even placed a phone call to the publisher. I was told he didn’t take calls and had no e-mail that I could use to communicate with him. Basically the Publisher and he wasn’t interested in clarification. If you conclude I don’t pay much attention to what he says or writes you’ve come to the right conclusion! The photos are glossy and pretty however.

By the way my brothers 64 TR4 came with a wooden dash, he bought it used in late 64.

Piggot seems a bit less than sure about this - allowing for the possibility that all North America TR4s got the wood dash near the end of TR4 production.

The build cert on my late 64 TR4 specifies 'wood trim to fascia' so I know it was not a later addition. I think it is really unusual to see a late TR4 w/o the wood so I suspect it was an 'option' that everyone got.

I think heaters were another option that everyone got though dealers in the tropics often deleted them. A heater is shown on my build cert but a factory heater delete kit has been used to remove it (car delivered to Standard Motors in L.A. then forwarded to Hawaii).

So the Austin-Healey fell through so I stayed with the marque and bought a TR4. Can never have too many TRs!

Question: what production numbers cover the period for the painted white dash of the early TR4 ?

  Three TR3s, a TR250 and now a TR4
