Subject: [TR] Alternative gearboxes for Triumphs

I'm rebuilding a Stag's gearbox w OD and noticed that there are kits available for TR6 to mate a Toyota gearbox.
The kits are about 1800$ then the price of the gear box. It seems that the W** box are becoming quite expenses. so this conversion can cost upward of 3K or more
Are TR6 gearboxes with OD hard to come by for $3k ?
If I had the money  I would be interested as an experiment in trying this conversion for a Stag. I've been told the be housing is about the same.
Other than reliability and availability of repair parts of a Toyota box what other advantages are people finding?
