Terry:

With the handbrake lever, there is only one way that shoe can go on. After that, follow the rotation and put the other shoe with the same orientation.

Subject: [TR] TR3 Brake Shoe Orientation

Okay, so there is a video on You Tube showing a LBC specialist in Britain working on the rear hub. (Bing search: MBG rear hub inner seal). As the guy pulls the hub, he's disgusted to find that the brake shoes are not oriented correctly. He states that the leading edge of the shoe, which is that edge with the greatest distance between the pad and the steel edge of the shoe, is supposed to face against the rotation of the wheel.

Checked out my rear brakes yesterday. I can't see how the brake set I got can do that on both sides. Orients correctly on the drivers side, but on the drivers side the emergency brake assembly pretty much eliminates an orientatation the guy on You Tube suggests.

Is his orientation suggestion of any real value?
