[TR] Holes? Badges?

My 59 TR3A had a mirror with mounting holes of that same spacing. It was secured with two sheet metal screws. If the hole spacing is correct, you can either use sheet metal screws or pop rivets to secure the badge,

Except that Andrew said there's no rear access to the holes
to accommodate use of nuts/washers. So I thought it'd be for
a mirror, mounted with sheet metal screws...

I have just noticed 2 small holes, 3.5 inches apart, below the passenger side stanchion (TR3). See attached pic.   I wish I had noticed them before the car was painted !

I wonder if maybe a previous owner had a badge there.

Two questions:  is anyone familiar with a badge which may have gone there?  Does anyone have one?
