My 3 resto project came with a pool cue ball for a shift knob. Someone had drilled a hole on a diagonal and installed a button OD switch. The ball was pretty rough when I got it so I didn't keep it. Anyway, maybe put your hand on the knob like you do when you shift, then place the switch where it seems less likely to be bumped?
