Success!
The engine is now purring at 700-800 RPM. At an East Coast mechanic's
suggestion, I closed down the Holley's secondary throttle plates. He said
that during idle the 1 1/2 turns of the secondary idle adjustment screw
will allow mixture through the secondary so that even with the primary idle
screw backed off completely a low idle is not possible. Anyway, worked for
me. I also bench checked all other adjustments, and also was careful to
tighten down all bolts to minimize vacuum loss.
So we're good to go....after fixing another leak in the cooling system, and
squaring away the clutch hydraulics and.....
