That would be the '72 models.  8rc with overhead cam.  They had their teething problems (timing chains, water pumps) , but people drove the wheels off them.
The earlier rt42-52 were old fashioned pushrods.
They sold millions of the 8 and 18rc engines.  Reliable as a hammer.
We almost never saw the insides of the gearbox.
