The same year I bought my first TR3 for $700. Unfortunately I was under 25
and my insurance jumped $1000 because they classified it as a High-Power
sports car. Traded it the next year for a Volvo PV-544... I sure miss both
those cars.

Subject: [TR] Used car ads from 1969

List,

Rainy day here so my wife and I headed to the basement to rearrange some
stuff (nothing ever gets thrown out - just rearranged!). I found our local
town newspaper that I kept from the moon landing dated July 21, 1969, and
after a few minutes of moon walk nostalgia, went to the automobile ads.

Wow....if we had the money/storage space/foresight. etc back then!!!
Here's a few interesting nuggets to refresh your memory on what our cars
were fetching in 1969:

1967 TR4A IRS, radio, heater, tonneau, wire wheels.......... $1649
1967 Sunbeam Alpine, radio, heater, wire wheels, low mileage.......$1399
1966 Triumph Spitfire, 2 tops, radio, heater, tonneau, wire
wheels.......$1099

Here are the big bucks opportunities:

1967 GTO, hardtop, 4 sp, PS, radio, heater, vinyl roof................$2099
1966 GTO convertible, 4 sp, wide ovals, radio, heater.................$1799

While these prices seem fantastic compared to the value we (and Barrett
Jackson!) place on the cars, in the same paper, a new 20" RCA color TV was
advertised for $258 which was a lot of money back then considering the nice
LCD TVs one can buy today for $258 so I guess technology has helped quality
and prices in some segments:)

Fun reading......
