[TR] tr3 loud noise on braking

still working the bugs out of buddies newly restored TR3.
during easy or very hard acceleration we have no problems.
easy to medium braking = no problems.
but when you hit the brakes real hard there is a large "clunk" noise that comes 
from the rear. like the axle.
checked all the bolts for tightness and nothing loose.
took the brakes apart and checked them. all seem good.
thoughts?
