We recently had the Lycoming engine rebuilt on the company plane (GA Tiger). For the first 100 flying hours the rebuilder had us run mineral oil for break-in so the rings would seat, or some reason like that. We bought the oil through the aviation community somewhere.

Listers,
I am doing a little research for when I go start this rebuilt engine up.
Keep seeing recommendations to use "mineral oil" during the break-in period.
Is mineral oil the same as motor oil?
Back in the day all they had was the can of motor oil, so I assume that is
what they are calling "mineral oil".
Cheers,
