"I'm considering changing my 57 TR3 from 4" disc wheels to 60 spoke 4.5"
painted wire wheels. I'd like to hear others' experiences before I drop
that much money on wheels"
John, if you will be purchasing from Hendrix they should need little
maintenance other than spine lubrication as Randall describes. Given that
you were thinking 4.5" wires I assume you like the classic look and light
feel of the original size vs. upsizing for performance reasons. If that's
the case you should spring for the "chrome" wires if able. I have painted
72 spoke wheels on my TR4A. The painted wheels look correct, but whenever I
am at a show or club event and see all those shiny wheels, I wish that my
car had the polished spokes. But this will son pass as I am planning a
change over to Minilite style rims this year :-) If I had to choose again
between the original steel rims and painted wires, I would stick with the
steel rimes
