YUP! Switch the overdrive off as you go through neutral to the next higher  
gear. No problem.
 
Also, as it sounds like you may not be that familiar with overdrive, here  
is a tip to make driving smoother: Try to apply at least light throttle when 
 engaging, or disengaging overdrive. Not a problem when accelerating up 
through  the gears, but when you downshift, just apply a little throttle for a 
second as  you switch the overdrive off; the downshift will be much 
smoother.
