Though in the case of a road draft tube... I think the stock version
was carefully designed to vent but not suck the oil out of the
crankcase.

I vaguely recall a tale of some well-meaning mechanic changing the
configuration of that tube on a works car (perhaps Ken Richardson's)
with diastrous results.
