This is what I have found in my manual regarding this thread, I hope it's
helpful:

If you have a original Lucas flasher # 35010 with the raised lettering, then
open the bottom of the unit carefully and remove the guts and reinstall a #
550 universal flasher guts, nobody, not even Andy M. can detect the change of
the components, bet ya.
