I second that. Some coatings give off noxious gases when you attempt to
weld them. It is likely that you can burn through the coating and produce a
good weld but breathing the fumes might be more serious than removing the
coating.

David, not knowing what it is or the weldability is one consideration.
Another is your health: If you grind the finish off where you're going to
weld,
and far enough back that its not affected by the heat, you'll stay
healthier
and not have to worry about weldability!
