I have made no effort to understand the problem but offer FWIW to AOL users:

For this list I use a dedicated Gmail address.  Messages are nicely
organized, personal archive is huge & presumably forever (and not on
my box).

I think you can just sign up but if you really need an 'invitation' I
can easily send you one.
