Not all seals are created equal, Frank.  I had exactly the same problem with
TS39781LO; but the seal I got for TS13571L (from TRF) fit perfectly.

It appears that some of the seals sold are dimensionally correct, but much
too firm.  The proper seal has a firm outer skin but a very soft core; it
should crush instead of distorting the lid.
