Paul,
I would take a male part, new, with the correct thread. I would lightly
lubricate it and see if it threads in easily.If so, leave it alone!
I would NOT tap anything stainless unless I really had to, and i would use
anti-seize on the threads. If you get stainless to stainless parts galling
and frozen up, it can be a real mess.
If you do have to tape parts like brake cylinders, you will need to buy or
make a bottom tap.
